Cressi Scuba Gear

In Genova, Italy the oldest scuba diving equipment company was formed by brothers Egidio and Nanni Cressi. The made the first hand crafted scuba mask, Sirena in 1943. The company was one of the first to produce spearfishing guns and masks. Later in 1947, Cressi came out with an oxygen rebreather that was engineered by advanced technical variable like the condensation receptacle. In 1952, the Pinocchio Mask was the first in the world to have a nose pocket. This allowed equalization more effectively. In 1957, Cressi invented the Rondine Fin model that would revolutionize the fins of the future. That model has been replicated many times over for its sleek look. This fin has a tilted blade coming out from the foot, closed foot pocket, opening for toes up top and reinforced side supports.

In the 1960’s Cressi improved on the Rondine Fin by producing a newer model that eliminated the negative zone of the fin by increasing thrust performance through an automatic venting system in the fin. The Polaris 4 two stage regulator was put into production. It quickly became the mainstay for divers all over the world with its low maintenance functionability.

The birth of the modern day buoyancy control device (BCD) was in the 1970’s. Cressi pioneered a innovative vest that held the oxygen tank and supplied a hose that drew air from the first stage. Later came the Polaris 5, the improved balanced two-stage regulator that assisted in dive records while providing excellent performance. In 1974, Cressi produced an impressive series of control instruments to aid the diver’s safety while underwater.

The mainstays of the Cressi brand were the spearguns, fins, masks, and regulators. The 80’s were all about improving their already successful line of products. Cressi used technology in its favor and came up with a refined modern BC jacket known as the Equidive Jacket. It has been remodeled year after year improving quality for divers alike. Spearguns are another big piece of the company’s success. All through the 50’s clear up to present day, Cressi is known for their spearguns superior quality and performance. The pneumatic speargun joins the previous models for success as athletes use them to hold onto their world titles in the sport of spearfishing.

Throughout the 90’s Cressi improved their already successful line of products. This decade many would call it the improve and expand period. As the need for Cressi products rose, the company developed more efficient and better quality products for the consumers. Improvements on the BC jacket bypass system were made to make the model much simpler and more reliable.

Cressi is a mainstay in the scuba diving world. It has continued to improve the quality and workmanship of its products. As the scuba sport becomes more and more popular, Cressi strives on providing quality products for the water enthusiast.
